New to BlueSpan Global? Here’s How It Works

Expanding into international markets can feel daunting - especially if you lack confidence, connections or specialist expertise. However, it may be easier than you think. BlueSpan Global helps UK businesses assess the opportunity and develop a comprehensive, structured and flexible international growth plan, enabling them to trade globally with confidence and it won’t cost the earth! The FAQs below explain how we can help:

1. How does BlueSpan Global help my company grow internationally?

We begin with a free, no-obligation 30-minute online meeting. Together, we review your company’s international experience, ambitions and potential to secure business in new markets. We then provide a report with practical recommendations to help you decide next steps.

2. Do we need previous international trading experience?

No. Many businesses begin trading internationally when an online enquiry leads to a sale. This is reactive trading: a positive start, but one that may result in a single transaction rather than repeat business. With our guidance, you can take a proactive approach and build a more consistent international income stream.

3. What are the most common barriers to international trade?

UK government research consistently highlights three common challenges for businesses:

  • Confidence to enter and operate in unfamiliar markets

  • Access to the right contacts and partners

  • Understanding the practical mechanics

BlueSpan Global helps businesses overcome these barriers by providing the insight, tools and connections needed to grow with confidence.

4. How do I find overseas customers, suppliers or partners?

You could wait for overseas customers to approach you, but a proactive strategy accelerates the process. BlueSpan Global uses in-depth research and established networks to identify and shortlist suitable partners, such as distributors, agents and co-developers. We carefully scrutinise their market potential before making introductions, saving you considerable time and resources.

5. Which countries could be right for my business?

The best markets depend on your product, service or technology. Some may be saturated with competitors, while others may favour established local providers.  We review your offer and identify markets that may be a strong fit. We also help you understand any restrictions or additional requirements. If alternative support is needed, we refer you to an appropriate partner.

6. What should I know about documentation, payments and customs duties?

Documentation and customs

Documentation requirements vary by product and destination, but commonly include commercial invoices, packing lists and shipping documents. Shipments may also be subject to customs duties, taxes or other charges. A freight forwarder or local Chamber of Commerce can advise on shipping requirements and documentary procedures.

Payment terms and methods

International payment terms may be longer than standard UK terms - often 60 to 120 days - so they should be reflected in your cash-flow forecasts. Payments are generally made through secure banking channels. In some markets, traditional methods such as Letters of Credit remain common, and documentary processes may still be paper based, although this is changing.

7. Do you guarantee international sales?

No adviser can guarantee sales. However, we help you create the strongest possible conditions for success by:

  • conducting human-led market research;

  • using trusted connections to identify suitable partners;

  • making tailored introductions to decision-makers; and

  • advising you during negotiations.

If required, we can work alongside your team through negotiations until the deal is concluded.

8. Can I do this through online research and AI?

Online research and AI can help you identify potential partners. However, personal introductions from an experienced international business adviser can add credibility in overseas markets. BlueSpan Global combines market knowledge, qualified contacts and a human-centred approach to help you build trust and accelerate the sales process.

9. How do I get started?

The first step is to clarify your offer, target market and - where relevant - shipping requirements. Book a free online meeting with us, and we will guide you through the process of trading internationally with confidence.

10. How much does it cost, and how long does it take?

Proposal and fees: We provide a clear proposal outlining available options, daily fees and estimated timescales. Projects typically require two to five days of work, depending on the complexity of the overseas market.

Getting started: Once you accept the proposal and sign a Service Level Agreement, we request 50% payment at the outset so work can begin.

Progress and completion: We keep you informed throughout the project and provide a comprehensive report when our work concludes. Projects are generally completed within six months, by which point you will have established suitable partnerships and begun generating sales.
